The Magus Dreams Of His Bride

The Magus Dreams Of His Bride

by Kristine Ong Muslim

The magus dreams of his bride
in a large cathedral
of obsidian rock.

He stepped on the bones
of the ones before her
scattered on the ground,

waiting for her to rise--
black and perfected,
vertebrae stretching to a tail,

head tapered to
reveal the brain.
Bristling, she emerged

out of the cauldron
of liquid fire
then held his hand and howled.
